Abstract: Quality of energy drinks consumed by an organism has a significant effect on an organism’s fitness. In the present investigation D. melanogaster were reared in Alternative natural energy drink based media, Synthetic energy drink based media and Wheat cream agar media. Feeding rate and pre adult development in these energy drinks, based media were studied. Results revealed that flies fed on alternative natural energy drink had consumed significantly greater quantity of food than those flies fed on synthetic energy drink and wheat cream agar media. Egg to larva, larva to pupa and pupa to adult viability was found to be significantly greater in alternative natural energy drink, whereas in larva to pupa viability wheat cream agar media was greater. This suggests that the consumption of alternative natural energy drink was beneficial in pre adult development of D. melanogaster.

Abstract: The focus of the study is to investigate the relationship between socially abused drugs and diseases among the aged people in Rivers State. Three hypotheses are generated to guide the study. Survey design is adopted for the study. The population covers all aged people in Rivers State. A sample of 600 respondents is randomly selected for the study. The selection is done through the use of simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. The questionnaire is the instrument used for data collection. The instrument is face-validated by professionals in the Department of Educational Psychology, Guidance and Counselling, Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt. The reliability value of 0.68 Correlation Co-efficient is established for the study. Biographic data of the respondents are analyzed using percentage and frequency table. The hypotheses for the study are tested at .05 level of significance using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The results of the analysis reveal that socially abused drugs significantly relate to diseases among the aged people in Rivers State. Based on the findings, the study recommends, among others that State and Local Governments provide adequate information about the effects of social drugs on the aged people, and why they should not be used or abused in Rivers State.

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to find out the association between health locus of control, self efficacy and self care abilities. Methods: This study is a descriptive, correlation study was done to 120 hemodialysis patients. The study was conducted at the Nephrology Hemodialysis Units of the Specialized Ain Shams Hospital, and Ain Shams University Hospitals. The data collection tools included: Interview questionnaire sheet, Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC) scale, The Chronic kidney Disease Self-Efficacy (CKD-SE) Instrument and Hemodialysis patients’ self-care measurement scale. Results: the mean age of hemodialysis patients was 32.08+ 7.66 and more than half of patients undergoing dialysis for 3 - <5 years. More half of the health locus of control and self care abilities, only less than half of them 48.3% have a complete self efficacy. There was high significant relation among health locus of control, self efficacy and self care abilities. and also between self efficacy and self care abilities. Conclusions: Hemodialysis patients with high locus of control have high level of self efficacy and desirable level of self care abilities.

Abstract: Nutrition consumed by an organism provides energy for growth, development, reproduction and survival of an organism. Pre – adult development is one of the important stages in the survival of an organism. In the present study flies of D. melanogaster reared in organic fruits (chikku and watermelon), non organic fruits and wheat cream agar media showed significant influence on feeding rate and pre adult development. The larvae had consumed significantly greater quantity of organic fruits, Further organic fruits had significant influence on egg to larva; pupa to adult whereas non significant influence in larva to pupa viability. Thus, these studies suggest that organic fruits chikku and watermelon had pre adult fitness benefit in D. melanogaster.

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the role of CT virtual endoscopy and multiplanar reformatting as a non-invasive imaging tool for assessment of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinomas in comparison with the conventional laryngoscopic findings. Design: Prospective study. Patients and Methods: Included (50) patients with suspicious of laryngeal or hypopharyngeal carcinoma, referred from the otolaryngology department, in the period from (2012 to 2013) they were (30) males and (20) females, with an age ranging from (30 to 85) years old. The patients were divided into two groups: group I patients with larangeal group II patients with hypopharyngeal cancer and results were analyzed. Results: Axial images of helical CT clearly demonstrate the location, the size and the extent of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal carcinoma, while MPR and 3D images are useful in displaying the three dimensional images and anatomical relation of the tumor. CTVL can clearly display the mucosal surface structures of the larynx and hypopharynx and it is a good complementary method of direct laryngoscopy. Conclusion: Although it is an invasive procedure requiring general anesthesia and ineffective beyond areas of luminal stenosis, direct laryngoscopy is the gold standard for viewing laryngeal pathologies. Multislice CT is crucial in the assessment of laryngeal pathologies including subglottic area, anterior and posterior commissures, paraglottic, pre-epiglottic spaces, cartilage and extra laryngeal structures. CT virtual larangoscopy and multiplanar reformatting were useful in evaluating and staging laryngeal and hypophyrangeal.

Abstract: Cancer is the general name for a group of more than 100 diseases. Although there are many kinds of cancer, all cancers start because abnormal cells grow out of control. Untreated cancers can cause serious illness and death. The body is made up of trillions of living cells. Normal body cells grow, divide, and die in an orderly fashion. During the early years of a person’s life, normal cells divide faster to allow the person to grow. After the person becomes an adult, most cells divide only to replace worn-out or dying cells or to repair injuries. This article introduces recent research reports as references in the cancer history related studies.
